Majority nod needed to set up guarded schemes

KUALA LUMPUR: Guarded neighbourhoods may be set up only with the agreement of a majority (at least 51%) of its residents, said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung.
“However, residents cannot be forced or coerced into agreeing to the setting up of such a neighbourhood.
“Local authorities must be informed of the decision to establish guarded neighbourhoods through residents’ associations that are registered with the Registrar of Societies under the Home Ministry,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Guarded neighbourhoods are defined as fully or partly controlled residential areas in existing or new housing schemes with individual land titles.
Chor said perimeter fencing was not allowed in guarded neighbourhoods under the new guidelines for the planning of gated communities and guarded neighbourhoods.
However, he said, temporary barricades such as a manual boom gate, cones and safety signboards could be used alongside sentries, provided security guards were controlling the facilities.
He said local authorities had the right to order the dismantling of structures in guarded neighbourhoods if they caused inconvenience to residents.******************************************************
I believe it is high time for Melodi owners to start get organised to form a pro-tem committee for our own resident association.
While we can see the guards now at the enclave, perhaps because the keys are not yet handed over to the owners, I am quite sure they will disappear once all of us get our keys. I remember reading somewhere that this happened to our Hening neighbour when the owners all got their keys.
But firstly, how many of us really want the guards and are prepared to pay a monthly maintenance fees to engage of the security company?
