I have an existing streamyx account, if after switching to unifi, I want to keep my existing phone number, can be done?
I heard from my friend from Puncak Jalil, he said TM told him need to use new phone number.

Hi Paul... how about BK3.  Covered yet?  I am current a Streamyx 1Mb subscriber.  I don't want to change my house number, as I was told that when i do subscribe to UNIFI must change number.  Tell me more.

U can remain ur fixed line by paying the rental fees but u can't change the existing number to new phone line. If u want to keep ur existing number then u will hv 2 fixed line after install unifi.

As far as I understood from UNIFI, the service is currently only available for BK9. Other areas in BK not yet but could be very soon.

You can check the service availability here: -

Paultan... is there any technical reason why an existing number cannot be retained?  This reminds me of the days when you cannot take along with you existing mobile numbers whenever one switches telco providers... today this is a no issue.

Where else, I have not seen any fiber-optic cable installed or installation in my area (BK5D).

Luke,
I think is because of the technology is different. Fixed line under unifi package is install Internet services first then the phone will connect from the moderm. Normal fixed line is direct to ur house. Hopefully Tm will solve this problem asap.

Yes. U still can't check the coverage of BK and TK in TM website. The info we get from TM is 30000 house s and shoplot are open for Unifi installation on JULY onwards. Most probably 20th July.

Paultan... for me a number is just a number ... how can number determine the technology behind it.  I still find it hard to grapple your explanation.  A Ferari and a Kancil can potentially carry the same car registration if you want to... but of course we know the difference in technology of both cars.

Definitely need to change number. Reason is UNIFI is using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).

Paul - I have checked, my area in BK9 is not unifi yet.

As long I don't see fiber around my area then it's not ready for Unifi. I believe by registering with pautan, pautan might able to push TM to look into this area for Unifi.

Sorry am not a techie guy - but UNIFI is operating on a different exchange compared with our normal copper wire phone exchange. I have checked with TM, and you can't port your old number to unifi. The phone number from unifi must be plugged into the UNIFI modem to work. It wont work via your old telephone jack

However, you can have the option of cancelling your streamyx but maintain the phone line. Reason, if there is power outage you still can use your old phone as UNIFI phone will only work via the modem.
