Bro Bee,

I certainly do not want any C&C nearby.  By the way, when my mom passed on some years back, I know Nirvana charges a bomb.  The one at Nilai is even more expensive.  We are talking about 5 figures i.e. RM15,000 onwards to have a burial. So decided for cremation, and even then it cost no less than 7k, and this is a Christian burial.  For traditional Taoist and Buddhist burial I heard is even more expensive.  So to a certain extend, the industry dealing with death and afterlife is truly a very lucrative one, for those managing the business.

Some time back DBKL had meetings with the Rakyat to present their cases protesting the C&C Project. Heard there was active participation from concerned groups. It has been quiet since then with DBKL keeping silent. Any updates?

Back in late 2008, I understand there were meetings with DBKL on the C&C and the Detention Centre which has been completed in any case. With the change in Mayor now, strategies may have changed.

Please shed some light and share with us of any development since the last meetings.

As far as I know meetings with DBKL in late 2008 and early 2009 were on issue on (1) Proposed Plan for Cemetery + Crematorium, (2) Temporary Detention Centre, (3) The missing Tamil School in Draft KL City Plan 2020, (4) The missing Hindu Temple in the Draft KL City Plan 2020. But until now there is no feedback from DBKL Public Opinion Hearing Committee or any announcement made by the cabinet that the KL City Plan 2020 has been gazetted.

The concerned land is marked as Lot 1986 in the Draft KL City Plan 2020 and it occupies 14.76 hectares, however just before the Draft KL City Plan 2020 was published in May 2008 part of the land (3.91 hectares) was used up for the Temporary Detention Centre, currently known as Balai Polis, Bukit Jalil. This follows a plan that has put forward by DBKL in year 2006 and remaining land fits the requirement for a Muslim Cemetery (a proposed area of 9.7 hectares) that was long existed under the DBKL official web site. This also tallies to another plan put forward by DBKL in Year 2007 and subsequent confirmation as shown in the Draft KL City Plan 2020.

Since 2005 till now DBKL has been trying hard to make this land free from occupants but had failed and existing occupants of the land already being declared as ex-estate workers are currently waiting decision from the Minister of Human Resources to schedule a meeting to re-discuss on Compensation & Remunerations. Just heard the Enforcement Unit of DBKL has issued an Eviction/Demolition order to be carried out on and after 2nd-Jun-2010 ignoring the promise made by the Minister of Resources to the ex-estate workers for a scheduled meeting to re-discuss Compensation & Remunerations that were wrongly computed.

While ex-estate workers were anticipating the scheduled meeting with the Minister our Deputy FT Minister had persuaded two ex-estate workers to collect compensation payment cheques from his hands. It is strange that cheques were not issuing from various government authorities but from DBKL instead. The rest of the ex-estate workers who refused to accept the offers were surprised by the Deputy FT minister’s behavior because Deputy FT Minister was totally aware and speechless during the meeting for proposal of Compensation & Remunerations to ex-estate workers on 16th-Mar-2010. Please see video below.

What is the intention of the Deputy FT Minister ? Only he knows ! Is he trying to evacuate all occupants within the Land that includes the SJK (T) Ladang Bukit Jalil and the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple ?

In September 2009 Jabatan Keretapi Malaysia display to the public all those lands that will be cut through by the extended LRT line. This was a requirement that JKM has to comply under the Railway Act. In the display it was clearly indicated that a land within Lot 1986 marked as Lot 45584 that occupies 3.5115 hectares and 0.3407 hectares will be acquired under the Land Acquisition Act, a requirement as indicated in the Railway Act. This finding clearly indicates the remaining land after the construction of the Temporary Detention Centre is sub-divided into two lots, One lot is 45584, that will be eventually occupies (3.5115 – 0.3407 = 3.1708) hectares after land has been acquired by the government. The other land left in the remaining lot (found to be Lot 45585) will therefore occupies an area of (14.76 – 3.91 – 3.5115 = 7.3385) hectares.

Why our Ministers are so interested to evacuate everyone out of land that has indicated as non-state land ? Will projects like that of Zest be planned on this land, since the land is within the land proposed for Information, Communication & Technology in the southern region of the KL City (Note: New proposed LRT Station is just 3 minutes walk from this land) ? Will a modernized Memorial be constructed within this land or just a Muslim Cemetery?  I think the answer can only be obtained from them !

So far these are the information that I have gathered and will report more when I get busy body again and till I find time to translate the Tamil News. Already find a bit rusty in my languages !

Do not ask me whether there will be Cemetery on the land that we talk about, please do your own research and share your views with everyone. This is how we can make our forum lively, informative or perhaps a model for others.

Firefly,

Looks like you are one of few who are interested in this issue. I have mentioned that the enforcement unit of DBKL is going to evict/demolish all houses effective 2nd-Jun-2010 but no one has asked me how the ex-estate workers are going to stop this eviction/demolition. Perhaps they think there will be no cemetery project in this land (currently marked as Lot 45584 & 45585).

Just found out Saravan, Deputy FT Minister is visiting the Tambahan SJK(T) Ladang Bukit Jalil on Wenesday, 2nd Jun 2010 at 12 noon. If he has not changed his schedule then I would think there will be no eviction/demolition at the Ladang Bukit Jalil on 2nd Jun 2010. DBKL will come on a later date. Note: Tambahan SJK(T) Ladang Bukit Jalil is not on Ladang Bukit Jalil, it is 1.1 km away from the existing SJK(T) Ladang Bukit Jalil. For those who are familiar with "Nathan's corner" it is just close to Nathan's Corner.

Please go there to meet Saravan if you wish to find out from him what will be the project on Ladang Bukit Jalil that he has kept secret. Forumers who are interested to purchase properties near Ladang Bukit Jalil maybe this is your chance to get a first hand news so that you can create an investment opportunity before prices go up. I do not have extra money so cannot join you.

There are news again today (The Star Metro - 12 July 2010) concerning the crematorium. MPSJ said that a crematorium is badly needed and most likely it will be in Puchong.  >:(

I do not think the cemetery location is the one discussed in this thread because Lot 1986 is within Bandar Tun Razak and is under DBKL. However I would think this decision of MPSJ has no effect on decision of how DBKL is going to utilise the land marked as 1986 under the Draft KL City Plan 2020.

Anyway, the problem with the authorities is that they can never work hand in hand or esle not only Selangor peoples are happy our KLlites will also be happy.

We are at the boundaries of Kinrara, Puchong, Seputeh, Lembah Pantai and Bandar Tun Razak and that make us suffer on consequences of bad projects proposed in our neihbouring lands.

I got a bad feeling that the authorities will just disregard public opinion and go ahead to build the crematorium and cemetery, either cur--curi build or manipulate the facts of what the public think.  This has been the hallmark of the current federal government's management of the country.

Bukit Jalil Estate residents given Aug 3 deadline to move out
By PRIYA MENON
priya@thestar.com.my

KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has given residents of the Bukit Jalil Estate until Aug 3 to move into the PPR Kampung Muhibbah Puchong.

DBKL deputy director (Services) Datuk Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said the government hoped the residents would take up the offer.

An enforcement exercise will be carried out with several agencies including Syabas, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, the Police and the Federal Territory Ministry after Aug 3 if the residents refuse to move.

“It is time for the residents to move into the PPR which is just across the road.

Out of the 105 families, 64 have moved out but there are still 41 families left behind,” he said during a press conference held at the DBKL office in Kampung Baru yesterday.

According to Amin, they carried out a census in 2006 and had organised 11 dialogue sessions with the residents.

The residents have been asked to move out because DBKL plans to create a cemetery for all races at the site.
Out of the 41 remaining families, 26 have been offered ex-gratia compensation from the Human Resources Ministry and the FT Ministry because they were former estate workers.

“All those who have moved and those who will move will be given offer letters to purchase the flats for RM35,000 within a month,” he added.

Amin said they would also be entitled to a rebate like all other applicants.

Residents had voiced concerns in the past about the cemetery plan as the value of the land was high.

Amin said that since the Bukit Jalil Detention Centre was located behind the land, any other development would not be appropriate and the cemetery was the only development plan for the area.
He urged the residents to move into the empty lots since the units had been reserved for them for five years and had become a target for vandals.

“We have asked them to register for the water and electricity bills and we will pay the deposit from the RM1,000 set aside for their move. The balance will be paid back to them,” he added.

At least 20 lorries have been put on standby beginning today and residents can get the keys for their units based on a list with their names and unit numbers at the DBKL office in Block J.

I have heard the announcement and I also heard PKR Bandar Tun Razak is making arrangement for Mp or Mps to meet the public tomorrow. They have approached DSAI, Tan Sri Khalid, Nurul Ibrahim, Tian Chua, Teresa Kok and is waiting confirmation from them. Just hope they can come to meet and help the ex-estate workers and the rakyat who will face the unwelcome cemetery !

Dear folks

Thank you for the support at yesterday's Press Conference. Attached link for your reading from The Star. Apart from the plight of our fellow Estate residents, the fight is also on for the proposed Cemetery which has mysteriously resurfaced.
