Fellow Forumers,

Brace yourself for another hike on our electricity bill after the meeting by those running our government today.

It is so strange that we have so much sunshine and the government is not making extra effort to utilise this renewable energy to help us reduce our dependence on what is being churned out by Tenaga and their partners.

According to the German Ambassador to malaysia Dr Guenter Bruber at BFM (89.9) today in an interview, Malaysia through world leading German companies are producing photo-voltaic cells for global use, however the Malaysian government is not pushing this for local market.

Tell me what's wrong with the picture here.  Is it because we need to continue to line the pockets of Tenaga and their cronies with our hard-earned money?  So they don't have enough, just raise the rates. We must as Malaysians tell the authorities to stop this nonsense.  Show us they really care and give us alternative renewable energy that will help us save money.

This unpopular decision was deferred until later, because it will make our government even more unpopular.

With petrol and LPG going up, rest assure our dearest federal government will raise electricity tariffs.  Don't we all have a wonderful government who gives us the best presents in life?

We export more high quality crude oil than we import poor quality crude for processing.  Then we sign extraordinary contracts with independent power generating companies, and because of these contract where they generate more power than we need, it is pass on to us end users at higher tariffs.

Let us vote this federal government in for another one term, better still, for the next 5 terms to do us even greater justice, by sharing with us 1Everything... 1Racistperkosa, 1Pricehike, 1Don'tcomplainsomuch.  I will sleep very well tonight.  Goodnight all 1BKians. :'( :o :( ;)

Malaysia getting too expensive to live in

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak caught Malaysians unawares by cutting subsidies on five items: sugar, cooking gas, Ron 95, Ron 97, and diesel. The country will save RM750 million subsequently. Najib said money saved will be used on education and health.

Najib also claimed that the opinions of people were sought, and they agreed to these subsidy cuts. The claim is doubtful as reports in various media showed otherwise.

Instead of cutting subsidies, people wanted the government to do away with wasteful spending and check on corruption which is rampant.

As for the money saved, how can the public monitor whether it will be truly used in the said categories? There have been numerous unfulfilled promises since the days of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, so much so that people are unconvinced by the ‘sincerity’ of the government.

Malaysia could be a very prosperous country. We have many natural resources, yet we are lagging behind our neighbor Singapore which has nothing. We were the pride of Asia in the 1960s and 1970s, our economy surpassed China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.

But today, not only have these countries overtaken us, even the backward countries like Vietnam and Cambodia will soon jeer at us.

It is very disappointing that our standard of living is on the decline. If not because of corruption by our leaders we would not suffer so. Sad to say, today Malaysia is one of the most expensive places to live in the world.

To the expatriates, Malaysia is a cheap place to live in but to those of us who earn small salaries in Malaysian ringgit, this country is getting very expensive to survive in. But what to do, since we don't have any revenue to migrate?
